8/3 This years 65 Roses Cystic Fibrosis outing was another great success and I was fortunate to play just a very small part of the entire days fund raising.

For those who are curious why it is called '65 Roses', it is what some children with 'CF' call their disease because the words are much easier for them to pronounce.  The story goes that Mary G. Weiss became a volunteer for the CF Foundation in 1965 after learning that her three little boys had CF.  Her duty was to call every civic club, social and service organization seeking financial support for CF research. Mary's 4 year old son would listen closely to his mother as she made each call.  After several calls, Richard came into the room and told his mom, " I know what you are working for." Mary was dumbstruck because Richard did not know what she was doing, and when asked, Richard stated, "You are working for 65 Roses".

Mary was speechless....and she went over to him and tenderly pressed his body to hers.  He could not see the tears running down Mary's cheeks as she stammered, "Yes Richard, I'm working for 65 Roses".  And now you know why for the last 44 years, "65 Roses" has been used by children of all ages to describe their disease.  The rose, appropriately the ancient symbol of love, has become a symbol of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

All the golfers had a great time, but more importantly, money was raised to continue the fight of this terrible disease.  To learn more on how you can join the fight, please visit:
http://indiana.cff.org (Indiana Chapter) or www.cf.org

7/13 For the second year in a row, Kenneth May Photography will be the official photographer for the 65 Roses Cystic Fibrosis Foundation golf outing.

7/11 and 7/12 Although rain delayed the games on Saturday, the Boonville Jr Baseball league had a great 'Summer Slam" tournament and Kenneth May Photography was the official photographer capturing the exciting action.  34 games were photographed on Saturday and Sunday.

6/1 Kenneth May Photography will be the official photographer for both the 14 y/o Semi-State tournament and the Ohio Valley Regional tournament in Newburgh in July.

4/5 Want to see your STAR pictures at area restaurants?  Click HERE for details and restaurant locations around the Tri-State!

4/1 Kenneth May Photography was among several businesses/photographers asked to submit a proposal to cover the entire Boonville Boys and Girls Baseball/Softball League picture day requirements.  I am proud to be awarded the official contract for both the picture days and season long exciting game and tournament action.  The league has over 48 teams for the regular season and to ensure your STARs game time/tournament action is captured, please pre-register HERE. Stop over to the large display during the season and tournaments and make sure to sign up for a chance to win a free "Season Photography Package" (2-8x10s and 2-5x7s)!  The team and individual picture schedule will be coming out shortly and will be provided by your coach.    A portion of all profit will be going back to the league! PLAY BALL!

3/31 With baseball season about to get underway, I have received several emails asking what leagues/schools I will be covering for game time and/or tournament action.  For the third consecutive year, I will be the official game time and tournament photographer for the Newburgh Boys Baseball League, and will continue to donate a portion of all profit back to the league!  In addition, I continue to be the official action photographer for all Castle Sports....To ensure your STARs action is captured, please pre-register HERE or tap me on the shoulder when you see me at any of the area games all season long.  If your STAR is playing in a league or area high school where no action photography is offered, please contact me as well, and I will make sure to cover at least one of their games.  Again for 2009, there is never any fee to request my photography services for action sports photography and the photos are never taken off line or a charge to view after 30 days. No matter if your STAR is in a league/school district I cover regularly, or not (including Kentucky), let me capture your STAR in action for a life time of memories!

3/24 As I continue to expand my photography services for the Tri-State-am working hard on upgrading the website to illustrate these exciting new services.  What started as offering purely action sports photography has grown over the last several years to include the traditional team day photography, to corporate and event photography, family/senior portraits, to even the demanding business of wedding photography.  Although the website's look and feel may change over the next few months, my commitment to providing exceptional service and outstanding photography will not.  In addition, I have expanded my home office to include a full working studio-equipped with all professional equipment-such as- remote lighting, props, and backdrops.  The studio also includes a comfortable/private outfit changing-makeup area. So in addition to providing on location/outdoor portrait photography in 2009, will now be able to offer fine studio photography.

3/8 The Evansville Thunder Youth Hockey organization held their Spring Tournament this weekend, with 16 teams participating in the heated action on the ice!  Teams came in from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, and Illinois and family and friends were treated to exciting action in all age groups.

I was again contracted to be the official photographer for all games and over the two day weekend tournament 21+ hours of coverage was provided. Galleries of the game time action can be viewed HERE.

One of the main comments I hear about shooting hockey, is how difficult it can be---especially when the rink has either dim lights, or some that are out...as well as, shooting behind the 'dirty/smudgy' glass.  Although I have been known to go on the ice before a game and clean parts of the glass that I plan on shooting behind, it is only a matter of time the glass will either have puck marks on it,  or worse, begin to fog up. No amount of Windex will help...  Shooting on the bench takes care of this issue and although I do shoot a lot from the benches, if you want to capture some exciting head on action by the net-with the players looking right at you, the only way around this is behind the glass.  Fortunately, with the correct fast lens (2.8 or faster) even the darkest rinks and foggiest glass is no match for a photographer who can post process the majority of these issues away!  Although all of my images on line for purchase are displayed at low resolution for faster and easier viewing, each photo that is ordered, is worked on individually before sending off for printing.  Look at the two examples below....the one on the left is right out of the camera while the one on the right would be sent off for printing....Hard to believe they are the same picture.....what dirty glass?  (The haze seen on the picture on the left is actually the glass!)

Should you have any questions on the steps to possibly make your own pictures turn out better, watch for a new area of this website coming soon on photography techniques and Photoshop tricks and tips!

2/26 Kenneth May Photography is proud to once again be selected as the Official Photographer for both Team Day and Action Photography for the Evansville Lacrosse League. For the second year in a row, KMP will provide exciting tournament action photography, as well as, the traditional team day photos.  Learn more about the league HERE.

2/19 I continue to receive a lot of positive emails and comments on the quality of the prints that are received compared to what they look like on line.  This is exactly one of the reasons I have such an extensive display at events- to show the quality of the prints.  Images you see on line are "low resolution" files that have not been post processed-meaning individually worked on for the best quality.  The reason they are shown at low resolution, is to speed up the viewing process.  Not every household has high speed internet and having high resolution files would add extra time to view.

Every digital file (image) needs to be 'tweaked', and by working with each file in Photoshop, the colors will have more 'pop'... an image that may appear to 'dark' will suddenly have the correct brightness and less 'noise'.  To see an example of image before and after processing-please click HERE.

2/6 For the third consecutive year, Kenneth May Photography has been named the EXCLUSIVE action photographer for the Newburgh Junior Baseball League. Regular season games and ALL tournaments will have action photography provided by Kenneth May Photography!

There are times when a schedule conflict develops and I can not make a requested event...then there are times no matter the scheduling issues, I will do whatever I can to not miss the event....not because of the business potential, but because it is the right thing to do. This was the case when I received a call from the Indiana Chapter - Cystic Fibrosis Foundation out of Indianapolis.

After the Foundation did an extensive google search of all Evansville photographers, I was asked to be the official photographer, to cover all of the fun and festivities during the Sixty-Five Roses Golf Classic in August. Photography and golf is a great combination, but add the importance and hard work the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation performs, and nothing could be better!

7/16 Requests for my event photography services have taken me many places over the years...From the famous racing circuits in North America, to countless sporting events of football, soccer, baseball, hockey, etc.  I can now add another first time event, as I received a call from the City of Evansville to be on hand for the I-69 ground breaking ceremony with the Governor of Indiana-Mitch Daniels- in attendance.  The gallery of the entire ceremony can be seen HERE.

Lately, I have been receiving a lot of questions via email and during games, why I password protect the galleries and why it takes so long to get the password.  Let me handle the second question first, you should receive the password within an hour (or so) after requesting-if I am in town and not traveling, as I am notified of the request and submit the approval.  I have heard that some email accounts consider the confirmation email as "junk mail" and place in the junk mail folder > I am checking into this and will try to correct this ASAP....  Some have asked that I just do away with the password of galleries, which leads to the first question, of why place a password on a gallery in the first place?  Some will even add I am losing sales by doing so....The ONLY reason I protect the galleries with a simple password is to make it just a bit 'safer' for our young STARs.  People who want to see the photos of the STARs in action need to request a password and if that limits just one person with 'questionable' reasons not able to view, then I am happy.  In this day and age of the internet, even a simple password may go a long way of keeping our STARs safe.

Should there be any difficulty in obtaining the passwords or delays, please call me right away at 812-449-2935 and I will be able to give you the password over the phone.  Thanks to all of you who have expressed concern on this issue!

I just got back from attending the National Sports and Event Association conference and will be able to provide more exciting products and stream line order entry in 2008. In order to stay abreast of all new developments in the action sports photography business, attended several seminars and was in attendance to listen to one of the nations premier sports photographer (Ben Chen) give insight on improving the skills necessary for action photography.

In 2008, my inventory of Canon L lenses will increase to add the 300mm 2.8 lens.  Although the fields in SW Indiana and Kentucky are great for day games, the lighting can make it very difficult for night games or some indoor gyms.  Along with the 300mm lens, I will continue to utilize all Canon professional equipment. The best way to make sure you can capture the action, is to have the correct glass (lens) and my list of Canon lenses include the powerful 500mm, 400mm, 70-200mm, 17-40mm, 85mm, and 24-70mm.

Several parents have mentioned when trying to log on to the galleries to view pictures, the name and email prompt either times out or cycles back.  I apologize for this issue and will disable the 'name/email log-on' feature.  The issue is with certain operating software, but to ensure everyone has the ability to view the public galleries, this feature will be turned off.  For private galleries, passwords will still be required.
